Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation Programs this position will develop and operate a comprehensive aquatic program to meet the needs of the community

Ensure a safe aquatic environment for the public and staff in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures

Recruit, hire, train, supervise and develop part time, seasonal, contract staff and volunteers

Provide ongoing supervision, leadership, coaching and recognition to staff and volunteers

Develop and deliver a proactive recruitment and retention plan for aquatic staff

Provide timely and effective resolution of customer complaints that meets the customers’ expectations using solid judgment, decision making and effective communication skills

Liaise with internal and external groups as required related to programs, services and events

Encourage community involvement from a programming perspective

Propose and develop innovative programming to meet the needs of a diverse population

Continuously analyze and modify existing programs

Respond to the needs of the community-based swim clubs and pool rental customers

Liaise with other facilities to ensure complementary and consistent delivery of programs

Conduct program quality assurance through ongoing program visits, observations and customer engagement

Review and verify payroll entries

Prepare and follow up on incident/accident reporting

Collect and analyze data related to programs, customer satisfaction, revenues and expenses

Develop and monitor staff and volunteer schedules

Document staff and volunteer training, ensuring staff certifications remain current

Review and maintain training manuals

Monitor and report on expenses and revenue actuals and forecast

Purchase and manage inventory of program supplies and materials

Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

3 year diploma in recreation, physical education or equivalent

One (1) year experience in aquatics program design, staff supervision and administration

Must hold and maintain Certifications as follows:
National Lifeguard - Pool
Standard First Aid, AED and C.P.R. – C
Life Saving Instructors
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
Aquatic Supervisory Training or Aquatic Management Training

Preferred Certifications include:
HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development & QUEST 2
Lifesaving Society Advanced Instructors
Bronze Cross Examiner
National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner
Lifesaving Instructor Trainer
WSIT Water Safety Instructor Trainer
First Aid Instructor/Examiner
Aqua Fitness Certification (CALA, Water Art or equivalent)
Aquatic Safety Inspectors
Certified Pool Operator
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel)
Working knowledge of CLASS an asset

Must possess and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license and acceptable driver’s abstract with the ability to provide own transportation

Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), at own expense

Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork

Sound judgment and decision making skills

Effective written and oral communication skills

Specific and current knowledge of aquatic programming

Working knowledge of health and safety and aquatic standards legislation

Demonstrated ongoing professional development and knowledge of best practices in the aquatic field

Ability to deal courteously an effectively with all levels of staff, program participants, and members of the general public

Schedule includes days, evenings and weekends; hours must be flexible to accommodate program requirements
