The Manager develops pricing and cost recovery strategies; manages departmental performance; prepares, administers and monitors the annual operating and capital budgets; and supervises and manages staff. The Manager is responsible for the overall management and planning for the Recreation Department including maintenance, asset management, health and safety regulations and applicable regulatory standards of arenas, parks, playgrounds, sports fields and other facilities. The Manager is responsible for communicating effectively with the public, community sports groups/organizations, local businesses, the media, members of Council, and contractors with a commitment to customer service excellence.
The successful candidate will: hold a University Degree/College Diploma in Recreation; have 5 years of supervisory experience in a municipal parks and recreation portfolio including successful supervisory experience in a unionized environment; demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, influence and work collaboratively and effectively with a broad spectrum of individuals in a complex environment; be an effective critical thinker, problem-solver and negotiator; have the ability to resolve conflicts and sensitive issues in an effective and timely manner; and have proven success developing and implementing strategic and operational business plans.
