Company Information
OPIRG Kingston is a local, student-directed, and community-minded group focused on social and environmental justice. We strive to create meaningful transformative change to benefit our local Kingston and Queen’s University communities by facilitating education, research, and
action for pertinent issues, ranging from queer/trans advocacy to combating food insecurity and empowering racialized girls and gender-diverse youth.
For over 30 years, OPIRG Kingston has:
- Initiated and/or supported impactful community groups and projects through our ‘working group’ system (many of which were so successful they became their own independent organizations, such as Kingston’s beloved ReelOut Queer Film Festival).
- Organized inclusive, educational programming, such as our major annual “alt-frosh” collaborative event series that introduces new and returning students to our vibrant change-making community.
- Empowered and educated Kingstonians to propel local change by offering extensive volunteer opportunities across our network of working groups.
- Facilitated meaningful connections among diverse community members from a wide range of equity-deserving groups (2SLGBTQ+, BIPOC, newcomer, disabled, among others) to forge an interconnected sense of belonging for all.
