Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to collaborate with employers to implement inclusion
strategies within workplaces. This could include speaking engagements, training and coaching,
policy drafting, providing input and feedback on established practices, surveys and communication,
and other activities. The Inclusion Advisor will utilize tools from an existing inclusion toolkit. The
Advisor will collaborate with Coaches from the target populations: racialized people, Indigenous
people, people with disabilities, women, trans and/or gender-diverse people.

Advisors and Coaches will work under the auspices of the Workplace Inclusion Charter
implementation. The Charter aims to create and promote inclusive workplaces for marginalized
populations including newcomers, people who are racialized/visible minorities, people with
disabilities, Indigenous peoples, linguistic minorities (i.e. Francophones), women, youth, older
workers and people from LGBTQ2S+ communities. The purpose of the Charter is to promote
employment practices and provide strategies that will improve inclusion, diversity, and equity in
the workplace. The pilot phase focused on newcomer inclusion while the second phase
expands the focus to racialized, Indigenous and disabled workers, and the current phase is
additionally focused on bringing a gender-based lens to implementing systemic changes within
workplaces and implementing the Charter in small municipalities outside of Kingston.

Together, the Coaches and the Advisors will implement tailored action plans that meet
employers’ individual EDI needs and utilize existing tools. They will provide ongoing support
throughout the process and assign checkpoints to track employer progress over the period of
their engagement.

The Inclusion Advisor will help recruit and train Inclusion Coaches and will provide ongoing
support to facilitate their contributions to change within assigned workplaces. The Advisor will
develop and implement targeted supports alongside trained Inclusion Coaches, conduct research
and evaluation activities, maintain up-to-date communications and case notes, promote the
Workplace Inclusion Charter and represent KEYS within the community, and other duties as
required. The Advisor will collaborate the project team, KEYS staff, local and regional employers,
the St Lawrence College evaluation team and relevant staff from the City of Kingston.

Competencies Required
a. Must possess strong interpersonal skills; active listening and decision-making and exceptional problem solving and conflict resolution skills
b. Possess excellent communication skills: strong, confident presentation/facilitation and writing skills
c. Excellent administrative and organizational skills; strong computer skills
d. Detail and task oriented with demonstrated self-management and time-management skills
e. Ability to work and communicate effectively within a diverse team environment
f. Understand the challenges facing racialized, Indigenous, trans/gender diverse and disabled job seekers/employees seeking to enter and succeed in the local labour market
g. Experience with policy analysis and labour market research is considered an asset
h. Analysis of intersectionality and/or understanding of how compounded identities impact experience and opportunity an asset
i. Ability to apply a gender-based lens an asset
j. Strong teamwork and negotiation skills
k. Knowledge of equity, diversity & inclusion principles, particularly in relation to workplaces
l. Ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships with employer and diverse stakeholders
m. Must treat all individuals with equal respect and interact in a tactful, supportive, professional manner
n. Comfort working autonomously in off-site locations and promoting KEYS programs and services in those communities
o. Ability to work with considerable self-direction and hit the ground running.

a. Post-secondary education preferred in Human Services, Human Resources, Sales/Marketing, Social Sciences or related field
b. Relevant first-hand experience and skills will be considered a suitable substitute for postsecondary education
c. Experience advocating for or implementing equity/inclusion practices an asset
d. Proficiency in English. French is considered an asset. Other languages also an asset
e. Valid driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle recommended
f. First-hand experience as a racialized person, Indigenous person, person with a disability, gender-diverse person or member of another under-represented group strongly recommended
g. First-hand experience of workplace exclusion or inclusion a strong asset

Work Environment (Equipment, Demands and Hazards)
a. Office/remote setting in Kingston with occasional travel to off-site locations within the KEYS catchment area
b. Professional appearance is required; casual business attire.
c. Occasional early morning or evening activities
d. Use of office equipment required: cell phone, photocopier, fax, computers, software specific to programs
