Harm Reduction Worker – FULL TIME – OVERNIGHT

Trellis HIV & Community Care, in partnership with Street Health Centre, a part of Kingston Community Health Centres (KCHC), is working in solidarity to provide support twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, within an Integrated Care model. Trellis HIV & Community Care invites you to join our heart-led harm reduction team to provide dignified and compassionate care for the people we serve, many of whom experience housing instability and homelessness, as well as substance use and complex mental health challenges as a result of systemic violence.

The Integrated Care Hub is based on the following 5 Core Pillars:

JOB DESCRIPTION

This role is focused on engaging in meaningful relationships with the people we serve as well as team members to prevent or reduce HIV/HCV and other blood-borne infections and decreasing drug-related harms. This is done by supporting people in accessing basic needs, increasing stabilization, promoting wellness, and increasing access to broader health and social services. This work will be done on-site at the Integrated Care Hub, in Kingston.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Staff the Drop-In space and Rest zone by engaging with the people we serve and ensuring that Rights and Responsibilities are being lived out.
  • Support the team in preparing and providing nutritious meals on-site.
  • Assist in distributing safer inhalation/injection supplies as well as Naloxone kits.
  • Provide practical assistance and referrals related to accessing other services and benefits.
  • Participate in working groups and committees.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of services provided.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of risks related to substance use.
  • Knowledge of barriers that prevent people who use substances in accessing services.
  • Understanding of homelessness, complex mental health challenges, and substance use.
  • Ability to work well with others and on your own.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people of all genders, sexualities, abilities, races, ages, and cultural backgrounds. Substance use, sex, and Sex Worker positive.
  • Comfortable interacting with people who are actively using substances.
  • Strong communication, de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgement and good boundaries.
  • CPR C/ First Aid, ASIST Training an asset.

NOTE Individuals with lived/living experience of substance use, people who are HIV+, racialized, Trans identified, Indigenous, LGBTQ2S+ and those with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

WAGE: $22.50

  • Full-time hours: 37.5 per week // Must be available to work overnights, 12-hour shifts on a 2-2-3 rotation over two weeks (meaning 2-3 shifts, followed by 2-3 days off).
  • Contract length: 12 months
  • Job Type: Full-time contract.
  • Comprehensive Health Insurance after three months of the probatory period.
  • Flexible schedule.
  • COVID-19 considerations: On-site rapid testing, PCR testing, masks, and vaccination access.

WAGE: $22.50
