Job Description:

Position summary:

We are seeking an experienced, professional leader within the social service field to become a member of our team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in providing program oversight to include administration, client management and personnel in both Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Court Districts.

Supervised Access is multifaceted program that offers an important service to families in Frontenac and Lennox and Addington counties who are experiencing high conflict within their custody and access. Supervised Access is supported by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, and allows children to visit with their non-residential parent in a safe, secure, child-focused, and neutral setting.

Client Management

  • Complete and process adult intake, child orientations and assessment of families to the program
  • Maintain and manage an ongoing caseload of 50+ active families
  • Determine family eligibility for program through a formal intake process
  • Oversee the supervision of visits and exchanges between non-residential parents and children, and provide direct supervision when required
  • Adhere to Court Orders and written agreements subject to center availability and policies

Administrative

  • Assess all court orders for program eligibility, Probation/Parole, CAS and OCL documentation and put into family file for staff review
  • Collaborate with lawyers, Judges, Probation/Parole, and CAS when necessary
  • Maintain ongoing correspondence with families and lawyers
  • Review and approve Program and safety Plans. Develop new policies and procedures following Salvation Army approval process

Personnel

  • Performance management of staff and volunteers
  • Conduct staff recruitment and training
  • Create staff schedules based on program needs, staffing levels and availability

Community Liaison

  • Solicit candidates from community members, lawyers, and other agencies to function as members on the Advisory Council
  • Liaise with community partners and actively participate in community committees
  • Develop and maintain appropriate links to all community agencies, courts, and the legal system within the counties of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington providing information regarding Supervised Access services
  • Attend Ministry conferences and participate in weekly provincial coordinator meetings

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Hours of work Monday – Friday during administrative hours
  • Flexibility is required to meet program requirements; afternoon, early evening and weekend work may be required
  • Oversee and manage approximately of up to 10 staff
  • Working environment is typically in the office, program room/classroom in generally agreeable conditions.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 30 pounds for set up and dismantling of equipment at each site
  • This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for periods of time

Qualifications:

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Education and experience Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in the humanities from an accredited university/college; social work, child welfare, family law preferred
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Bilingual in English and French preferred
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification would be an asset
  • Valid license and access to a vehicle

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with families in crisis focusing on domestic violence, family law, child welfare, and/or child custody disputes
  • Experience coordinating or managing social service programs
  • Comprehensive knowledge of broad range of social issues affecting families including mental health issues, addiction, family dynamics, separation/divorce, abuse, domestic violence, and child development
  • Negotiation, conciliation, and conflict management skills
  • Knowledge of community support services and referral sources

  • Experience in directing and evaluating staff and volunteers

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, and Outlook Express
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening as required
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
