Job Description:

The Township of Frontenac Islands is looking for  (2) part-time and (2-3) casual Ferry Operators for the Howe Island East Township Ferry.  

The Ferry Operator directs and assists the loading and unloading of all vehicles and passengers onto the Ferry. The Ferry Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Ferry in accordance with all relevant federal, provincial and municipal regulations, legislation and standards.  The Ferry Operator will be responsible for "basic maintenance". 

All Ferry Operations training will be delivered to new employees. As well, the required Marine Emergency Duities (MED) Training will be delivered "In House" on Howe Island as supported and approved by Transport Canada.

Qualifications:

As the Sole Operator of the Howe Island Ferry, the successful candidate would be someone who is:

• Responsible, Dependable and Punctual as the Ferry leaves the dock at 6:30 am and you must be at Howe Island at 6:15 am to prepare the Ferry.
• A natural trouble shooter and problem solver
• Willing to work shifts - The two shifts are 6:15 am to 3:30 pm and 3:30 pm to 12 midnight
• Great customer service skills and working well with the public 

Reliable Transportation is needed if not living on Howe Island as the Ferry starts and ends at the Island. You would need to utilize the Joyceville Ferry 24-hour service to access the Island and return.

Note: Part-time hours are scheduled; However, Casual positions are on an on-call basis (no weekly hours guaranteed). Rate of pay will be adjusted to $23.36 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits effective June 12, 2023.
