Summer Student: Horticulture / Landscaping (2 Positions)
Employment Dates: April to August 2020
Job Description:
Ideal candidates will be enrolled in a full-time post-secondary education program in
Horticulture or related program and planning to return in the Fall of 2020. The position
provides beautification services to Township parks, entrance features, assets, gardens
and community driven projects. The ideal candidate will have experience operating
equipment and tools related to preparing, planting and maintaining of annuals,
perennials, trees and shrubs. Satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check) , a valid class
“G2” driver’s license and a satisfactory driver’s record are required.

Summer Student: Parks and Sports Fields (5 Positions)
Employment Dates: April to August 2020
Job Description:
Ideal candidates will be enrolled in a full-time post-secondary education program and
planning to return in the Fall of 2020. Consideration will be given to those with a
minimum Grade 12 high school level (subject to funding grant requirements). This
position provides maintenance services to Township properties, including the
Recreation Centre, libraries, municipal offices, historic buildings and parks. As directed,
this position will be required to perform weekly risk and hazard inspections of parks,
sport fields and play spaces. The ideal candidates will have experience in operating
equipment related to lawn cutting, garbage removal and other duties associated with
landscaping and maintaining Township parks/sports fields. The ideal candidate will have
knowledge of the risks or hazards that may exist within outdoor recreational spaces.
Satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), a valid class “G2” driver’s license and a
satisfactory driver’s record are required.

Summer Student: Senior Parks and Sports Fields Student (1 Position)
Employment Dates: April to August 2020
Job Description:
This role is open to applications from returning summer students who have previously
worked in Parks and Sports Fields. In addition to the regular job requirements listed
above, the Ideal candidate(s) will have strong leadership, communications, and
interpersonal skills. The position provides support to the Lead Hand by helping to
provide orientation to new summer students, and by helping to organize their tasks.
Satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), a valid class “G2” driver’s license and a
satisfactory driver’s record are required.

Job Description:
Ideal applicants must be enrolled in a full-time post secondary education program
preferably in a civil engineering related program and planning to return in the Fall of
2020. The selected candidates will be motivated and able to work independently. This
position will primarily perform outside activities, such as weed trimming, flagging,
surveying, shop maintenance, roadside patching, assist with inspections and other
engineering tasks, record keeping and other duties as assigned. A valid class “G2”
driver’s license and a satisfactory driver’s record is required.

Summer Student: Summer Camp Coordinator (1 Position)
Employment Dates: May to September 4, 2020.
Job Description:
Ideal candidates will be enrolled in a full-time post-secondary education program related
to working with children and/or recreation and planning to return in the Fall of 2020.
Candidates must have experience working with children in a camp/classroom setting,
supervisory experience, child behaviour management and a good knowledge of
children’s programming relating to sports, games, crafts, drama, music, etc.
Candidates are responsible for assisting and/or completing the following tasks:
• Planning, implementation, promotion and supervision of a safe and well-balanced
Summer Day Camp Program
• Staff training and weekly update meetings
• Inventory of supplies & ordering if needed
• Planning camp trips, special events and transportation to events
• Creating parent newsletters
• Working with different departments cohesively
• Supervising camp leaders, junior leaders and volunteers at various locations
• Evaluations of staff performance
• Assist leaders with behaviour management of campers
• Risk and quality management of all programs
• Administrative tasks

Job Description:
The ideal applicant should be enrolled in a GIS program at a recognized Community
College or University and planning to return in the Fall of 2020. The primary focus of this
position will be to assist the GIS team in the creation, editing and maintenance of spatial
and attribute data. Assistance in the delivery of geomatics services to staff that may
include one or more of the following: support GPS and related data collection activities;
create ArcGIS services; undertake geospatial analysis; update metadata information
and assist in map creation. The successful applicant must have superior written and
analytical skills, along with experience in ArcGIS, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and
database software. GPS and/or GIS systems experience would be considered assets. A

Summer Student: Student Recreation Attendant (1 Position)

Job Description:
The purpose of this position is to provide general maintenance and cleaning for
Recreation Services’ facilities, programs and events. Duties shall include, but are not
limited to, garbage removal, painting, pickup and delivery of supplies, pool cleaning,
building cleaning, and assistance with carpentry and plumbing repairs as required.
Experience in use of power tools, operation of pool and arena equipment, and general
maintenance activities would be considered an asset. Valid class “G” drivers licence
required. Both indoor and outdoor work shall be required. Satisfactory CPIC (Criminal
Record Check), including Vulnerable Sector, will be required by the successful
candidate, at their own expense.

Job Description:
Ideal candidates should be a graduate or be enrolled in full-time senior secondary
school (grade 11 or 12). Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the
position including: climbing stairs, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying objects weighing
50 lbs or less. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Must have valid First Aid/CPR
certificate and, if 18 years or older, a satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check) at their
own expense. Must demonstrate reliability and safety-conscious attitude. Strong
customer service and communication skills to handle daily interactions with the
travelling public.
