Position Summary

Edith Rankin Memorial United Church (ERMUC) is seeking a part time Technology Coordinator who will be responsible for the coordination of all segments of technology related to the operation of a modern progressive church. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following areas:

  1. Providing technical direction and support for the church’s sound, media, video, lighting, computer systems, as well as internet-based applications, including social media, website, and live streaming.
  2. Providing team leadership for the media and communications volunteers, including recruiting, training and scheduling of the Media Teams for in-person Sunday services and special media presentations.
  3. Coordination and support for the facilitation of live streaming of Sunday services on the appropriate platform.
  4. Researching and test-marketing of social media apps/platforms and reporting on their effectiveness; moving to implementation as directed.
  5. Working with volunteers to ensure website is current, relevant, and effective. This could include the administration and construction of the website design and content using current best practices for accessibility, security and archiving.
  6. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience/training or knowledge in various areas of audio-visual technology including audio mixing boards, video camera operation and computer media, and an awareness of the impact of lighting and acoustics on presentation excellence.

Familiarity/training or experience in various software, which would facilitate the duties listed above, such as WordPress, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Premier Elements, Zoom, Open Broadcast software, and other similar social media applications.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have leadership qualities appropriate to the role.
  • Be comfortable offering direction to, working alongside and listening to volunteers of all ages and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Have a curious, innovative attitude, and continuing to look for ways to improve technology in the church, understanding the position is a work-in progress.
  • Have effective interpersonal skills.
  • Consult with, and report to, the minister and lay leadership on a regular basis about the technological needs of the church.
  • Be church-aware and/or be eager to learn church protocols, service schedules, and the flow of worship.

Hours of work will include some Sunday mornings and some weekday evenings; availability and flexibility are a must.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check at own expense.
