Within established and clearly defined library procedures and regulations, performs routine circulation and stack maintenance duties.

Job Description
TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (Effort & Responsibility)
1. Circulation Duties:
• Charges, discharges and renews circulating materials in all formats.
• Creates/updates records as required, and according to established authorization.
• Interprets and applies circulation procedures and regulations, referring difficult problems to more senior staff in the area.
• Exercises judgement in issuing routine courtesy library cards, consulting with or referring to the Head Reference and Information Services Librarian or designate on special or unusual requests.
• Participates in checking, and preparing library notices, contacting library patrons concerning recalled, held, or rush catalogued items, as required.
• Opens and closes the library, including service points.
• Processes recalls, holds, and campus retrievals, searches for long overdue items and items claimed returned, ensures the completion of all patron and staff-initiated searches, changes the status of books to missing as necessary. Refers problems to more senior staff in the area.
• Assists student library assistants and provides assistance with training student library assistants as needed.

2. Customer Service Duties:
• Assists patrons, answering facilitative or basic questions for which an immediate, definite answer can be found.
• Refers queries to the appropriate library staff as necessary.
• Provides assistance and basic troubleshooting in the use of library equipment and computer workstations.

3. Equipment Support Duties:
• Ensures with training that all self-service photocopy, microform, printing equipment and software are maintained (including troubleshooting), and are in good working order.
• Issues refunds for students, troubleshoot and respond to any issues
• Provides training and guidance for student library assistants assigned for periodical/photocopier/microform printer duties, as required.

4. Stack Maintenance/Retrieval Duties:
• Undertakes routine stack maintenance, including shelf-reading, sorting, shifting, and shelving library materials and inventory projects.
• Identifies material that needs relabeling or repair. Replaces damaged or missing labels.
• Participates in inventory projects and other special projects.
• With direction, retrieves materials for specific purposes.

5. Clerical/Administrative Duties
• Photocopies/scans and delivers material as needed (i.e. for photocopy request, reserve, or interlibrary loan).

INTERACTIONS AND EQUIPMENT:
The incumbent works with, or comes in contact with, Library patrons and Library staff in person, by telephone, or electronically.
The incumbent will regularly use the following equipment:
• Standard computer and library/office equipment
• Printing software/hardware
• Specialized photocopying equipment, including printers
• Self-checkout software and hardware
• Other hardware or software that is introduced to the Information Services staff and service points.

QUALIFICATIONS: (Skill)
Education & Experience:
1. Secondary School Graduation Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
2. Basic computer skills (e.g., Working knowledge of Windows/MS Office environment)

Special Skills, Knowledge or Ability:
Ability to work under pressure and to maintain both speed and accuracy are essential, ability to follow detailed instructions accurately, ability to follow a task through to completion following established policies and regulations, good communication skills, ability to work in a team-based environment,
service oriented. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position as outlined in Working Conditions.

DECISION MAKING: (Responsibility)
In accordance with established and clearly defined library policies, procedures and regulations the incumbent plans own work in order to meet deadlines and maintain service, refers patrons to appropriate staff members or service point and refers to senior staff, as required.
