A Brief Overview

Career Services supports students in building hope, confidence, skills, and connections toward successful futures by providing university-wide support for career development and the growth of experiential learning opportunities. Join the Queen's Undergraduate Internship Program (QUIP) to facilitate valuable experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate students through 12-16 month, full-time, paid internships. Reporting to the Associate Director, Work-Integrated Learning, the Internship Coordinator contributes to the success of experiential learning programs coordinated by Career Services, with specific focus on QUIP. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring superior service and advising to students and employers, and effective relationships with program partners.

This position acts as a point of contact for internship and professional experience programs, and facilitates connections between students, alumni, and potential employers. This position maintains regular communication with students and collaborates with employers and other departments and/or units on job opportunities and/or internships. This position guides employers through the employment partnership hiring process including job postings, company information sessions, interviewing, and tracking offers and acceptances. This position also coordinates and implements events including scheduling, promotion, recruitment, and logistics.

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work evenings and weekends.

What you will do

    • Acts as a point of contact for internship and professional experience programs, and facilitates connections between students, alumni, and potential employers.

 

    • Maintains regular communication with students and collaborates with employers and other departments and/or units on job opportunities and/or internships.

 

    • Guides employers through the employment partnership hiring process including job postings, company information sessions, interviewing, and tracking offers and acceptances.

 

    • Coordinates and implements events including scheduling, promotion, recruitment, and logistics.

 

    • Identifies opportunities to improve program efficiency and new partnerships.

 

    • Develops and implements guidelines, procedures, and processes for existing programs.

 

    • Designs, plans, and coordinates professional experience workshops and events.

 

    • Provides customized job search and career advice to students including career exploration, educating students about internship search, and providing feedback on cover letters, resume, and practice interviews.

 

    • Prepares statistical reports, interprets results for reporting, accountability, and planning.

 

    • Designs and delivers student training supports for internships in other units on request, such as workshops and internship manuals.

 

  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Job Requirements

Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent.

Required Experience

  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications

    • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.

 

  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required.

Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Knowledge and Requirements

    • Practical and applied knowledge of specialized methods and processes that are typically acquired through a combination of technical or academic qualification and/or work experience.
    • Provide consultation and advice on non-straightforward and/or complex issues.

    • Participate in project team meetings and develop individual project plans.

 

    • Lead procedural or technological change within a unit.

 

    • Identify new problems and seek information and input to fully understand the cause of problems.

 

    • Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work processes.

 

    • Draw logical conclusions and provides opinions and recommendations.

 

    • Research equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion resources and best practices relevant to the job and unit operations in order to inform evidence-based planning.

 

  • Commitment to principles of equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion, Indigenization and human rights for equity deserving groups.
