Job Summary

The Minds in Motion Coordinatoris responsible for planning and delivering the weekly Minds in Motion program for older adults living with dementia, including leading the physical activity component and facilitating engaging social and recreational activities. This role helps create a welcoming, inclusive, and stigma-free environment for all participants.

The position also supports local program delivery by building and maintaining community partnerships. In collaboration with the Coordinator of Volunteers, the Minds in Motion Coordinator recruits, screens, trains, and supervises volunteers to ensure a safe, well-organized, and meaningful program experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitation of physical activity and social recreation components of the program
  • Facilitation of social networking and relationship building among participants
  • Development and management of partnerships with community centres in which Minds in Motion® will be delivered.
  • Attendance at each program session
  • Expedite set up and clean up of program(s), facilitate and participate in program,
  • Building strong internal and external relationships with clients, staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders
  • Maintaining confidential, accurate client documentation records

Qualifications And Skills:

  • Diploma or degree in health care, exercise & science or therapeutic recreation studies, social work, gerontology, or other related discipline
  • Certification in good standing as a Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer
  • Seniors Fitness Instructor Certification in good standing considered an asset
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification required
  • Experience working directly with people living with dementia and their care partners
  • A minimum of two years facilitating groups comprised of diverse individuals with complex needs, preferably in social and or therapeutic recreational setting
  • History of working and supporting volunteers and/or student placements within a program environment
  • Willingness to participate in professional development and work actively with team members

Experience:

  • College or University diploma/degree in related in field
  • Experience working directly with people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias and their care partners
  • Experience and knowledge in management of chronic and complex health conditions
  • Knowledge of available community services/supports and clinical, social and residential care options
  • Understanding of roles and linkages across primary care, community care and specialized geriatric services
  • Knowledge of clinical practices and training models related to dementia (e.g.: P.I.E.C.E.S. and U-First!)

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including shared decision-making and facilitation
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage competing tasks
  • Ability to take initiative and be resourceful
  • Excellent problem-solving and change management skills
  • Proficiency in technology (e.g.: Microsoft office and case management and care coordination systems)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team
  • Expertise and experience in cultural sensitivity and diversity
  • Ability to speak French or other languages an asset

Travel Requirements:

This position will be based out of our Kingston office with travel throughout KFLA

Physical Demands:

No special physical demands are required beyond the performance of program needs
