Description

Demonstrate the ability to be self-directed after being given oral and/or written direction/instructions and to deal with challenging situations while maintaining a professional attitude while doing rewarding work that is both physically and mentally demanding as well as exhilarating.  Possess ability to deal with new situations daily, long hours, weather extremes while working together towards a common goal with a clear vision.

Will be asked and expected to assist with but not limited to some or all of the following duties:

  • Manage safety, quality and productivity of work at sites and/or shop/yard
  • At all times communicate with clients, the public, and co-workers in a professional and courteous manner
  • Foster a positive working environment focused on safety, company and client quality requirements, while ensuring maximum productivity through the use of training and coaching with team members
  • Provide feedback to team members regarding their performance.
    • Communicate observations of individual and team performance to management to assist in staff evaluations, training requirements etc. All with the mindset of mutual improvement and benefit.
    • Obtain and read work orders or site logs before attending work site. Communicate and discuss any particulars of the site with team prior to/enroute to job site
    • Ensure all tools and materials required for the day are loaded safely and securely on/in vehicle
    • Assess site upon arrival to confirm/determine order of daily tasks.
    • Assign tasks to team members
    • Manage team members and their own time effectively to ensure task completion
    • Use job/site log to refer client concerns, questions or consults they may require and to record what was done and the time it took.  Also record any pertinent observations which may affect the performance of a task and/or the health and well being of the end product.
    • Operate various tools, equipment, and hand tools including but not limited to:  heavy equipment, jackhammers, laser levels, chainsaws, power tools, measurement devices, shovels, rakes, etc.
    • Perform tasks related to construction labour including many tasks which involve repetitive lifting (up to 50lbs) and movements
    • Perform and document preventative maintenance on equipment and tools
    • Plant, weed, prune, seed, lay sod, mulch, rake leaves, debris removal and disposal etc. as required or assigned
    • Be prepared to work in various weather conditions with flexible work hours including weekend work if necessary; in a noisy environment with various types of equipment
    • Comply with company policy and procedures; including working in accordance with the OHSA and any other applicable health and safety requirements of individual work sites
    • Other duties as required and assigned

    Experience is an asset but a willingness to learn and a professional attitude is a MUST! Training and advancement opportunities will be available

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements / Work Experience:

  • Reading, writing, and comprehension of documents and instruction. Good oral communication skills. Professional and team mentality. Critical thinking, continuous learning.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, pressure packed, physically demanding, under extreme conditions, doing repetitive tasks while maintaining a conscious focus on safety and having fun. Preference will be given to those possessing industry certifications CHT, CLP, CIT, CLD, ICPI/CMHA, or horticultural diplomas, apprenticeships or degrees and those with industry related experience; along with those wishing to pursue/enroll in the apprenticeship program during the winter months.

Leadhands Required Skills:

  • Some secondary school education may be required
  • Comprehension of English language written and verbal instruction
  • Demonstration of proficiency in tasks assigned
  • Interest in furthering their skills by taking advantage of educational and developmental opportunities available

Work Site Location

Work site location varies daily, but all employees are expected to meet at the yard every morning to leave from the operations base.

Additional requirements

CSA approved safety boots/footwear provided by the successful individual applicant

Work Site Location

Work site location varies daily, but all employees are expected to meet at the yard every morning to leave from the operations base.

Compensation: $22-24/hr

After 2 consecutive years with the corporation the employee receives a Health spending account package of $250/year which can be used towards any health-related expense claim allowable under the Canada Revenue’s Income Tax Act with a 12month carry forward option.
