Position Description

The part-time Delivery Driver will professionally, safely and courteously deliver boxes of food to schools across Kingston using The Food Sharing Project’s cargo van. The position will typically be scheduled Monday to Wednesday, for up to 12 hours per week, generally from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Organization

The Food Sharing Project (FSP) is a registered Canadian charity that has been operating for 40 years. The FSP provides nutritious food to all 88 schools across KFL&A to support their in-school breakfast, lunch and hearty snack programs. An average of 10 tonnes of food, valued at over $25,000, is packed and delivered each week, throughout the school year. In addition, FSP delivers packaged lunches to participating schools that are prepared in three off-site production kitchens.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

DELIVERY AND TRANSPORTATION

  • Safely load food boxes into the organization’s delivery vehicle for transport to schools.
  • Safely operate the organization’s cargo van to deliver food orders to schools across the service region, exercising caution when driving near schools and following safe driving practices.
  • Follow the established delivery schedule while operating the vehicle safely and responsibly in a variety of weather and road conditions throughout the school year.
  • Transport food from the delivery vehicle to school entrances and designated delivery areas
  • Pick up empty food boxes and milk crates from schools and return them to the organization for cleaning and reuse.

 

CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION

  • Provide professional, courteous and respectful customer service to school staff when making deliveries.
  • Receive feedback from school staff and report relevant information to the Culinary Operations Supervisor or Executive Director to support improvements to delivery and food distribution operations.

 

VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT

  • Ensure the delivery vehicle is kept clean, organized and in good condition.
  • Report any vehicle maintenance, safety or equipment concerns promptly to the Culinary Operations Supervisor or Executive Director.
  • Use delivery equipment, including pump trucks and dollies, safely and appropriately.

 

OTHER

  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

 

Terms

  • The position is part-time, beginning September 21, 2026 and continuing until June 18, 2027.
  • The position is up to 12 hours per week, typically scheduled Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
  • The employee will not work when regular school deliveries are not being made, including December 21, 2026, to January 1, 2027, and March 12 to March 19, 2027.
  • The employee will record hours worked on a timesheet, approved by the Executive Director
  • Rate of pay will be $21 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay, paid bi-weekly
  • At hiring, the successful candidate will provide a satisfactory criminal police information check (CPIC) that includes vulnerable sector screening (VSS).

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • A valid Ontario driver’s licence and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Previous experience driving a cargo van or similar vehicle would be an asset.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry boxes of food, milk crates and other items weighing up to 25 kg.
  • Ability to work independently and follow established delivery schedules and procedures.
  • Strong commitment to safe driving practices and workplace safety.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work consistently within the scheduled delivery times.
